Servings 4
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 medium onion finely chopped
- 1 bell pepper diced
- 2 cloves garlic minced
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 4 slices provolone cheese
- 8 slices Texas toast
Instructions
- Brown the Beef:
- In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned. Break it apart with a spoon as it cooks.
- Sauté Aromatics:
- Add finely chopped onions, diced bell pepper, and minced garlic to the skillet. Sauté until the vegetables are softened.
- Create the Sauce Base:
- Stir in tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, salt, and pepper. Allow the mixture to simmer for 10-15 minutes, letting the flavors meld and the sauce thicken.
- Toast the Texas Bread:
- While the meat mixture simmers, bake the texas toast at 425 for about 5-7 min or until golden brown
- Assemble the Sloppy Joes:
- Spoon the inside of the cooked texas toast flattening the bottom to make room for the meat mixture, then generously scoop onto each slice of Texas toast.
- Top with Provolone Cheese:
- Place a slice of provolone cheese on top of each serving.
- Melt the Cheese:
- For a gooey finish, either pop the assembled Texas toast sloppy joes back in the oven for another 6-7 min or until the cheese melts and becomes irresistibly bubbly.
- Serve and Enjoy:
- Serve immediately, relishing the perfect combination of savory sloppy joe filling, melted provolone, and the buttery crunch of Texas toast. A deliciously simple meal is ready to be enjoyed!
